Mothers Wanted
Mums That Like to F*ck (working title) is a brand new and exciting performance project from performance makers and producers of SourPuss Meg and Lou.
SourPuss are devising a comedic show to open up discussions around seemingly ‘taboo’ subjects around sexuality and motherhood.
We are looking for mothers that have a performance background in any discipline who are interested in talking about a women’s sexual identity post having children. This will include dating for single parents, society’s views on sexuality and motherhood, the trials and tribulations of sex post having children, and anything else that stems from these conversations.
We are hoping to connect with artists based in Yorkshire, the work will take place in York with support from SLAP (Supporting Live Art & Performance) and York St John University.
An initial group meeting will be held between 6-10th June, date and time TBC, as well as an opportunity to connect on zoom or have a 1-2-1 discussion. We hope to discuss and share thoughts on the subject and gain an understanding of how you might like to be involved.
This project is currently pre-funding, we are hoping to meet with performers to find collaborators, leading to a funded research and development phase in August/September.
If you are a performer based in Yorkshire interested in making new collaborative work around this subject, we would love to hear from you.
We are interested in anyone who identifies with being a ‘mother’ but understand that this title might be more challenging for some, and welcome non-binary and trans people to get in touch.
Any level of experience is welcome, we are interested in meeting all artists who are interested in the ideas and research for the work.
To get involved please fill out the expression of interest form and we will be in touch with you soon.
About SourPuss
Sourpuss was founded in 2018 by Lou Bartley Sophocleous, Megan Hamber and Vicky Moran, to connect with people to make joyful and powerful art. Working with women and LGBTQAI+ people, creating safe, inclusive spaces with good vibes and quality work is at the heart of what Sourpuss does.
Sourpuss creates spaces and events which hold cabaret, live art and performance pieces, from parties and club nights to intimate pop up theatres. Currently Sourpuss which now consists of Lou & Meg who are working on a project collaborating with mothers to make their show ‘Mums who like to f*ck’ (working title) as part of SLAP’s incubate programme.
Megan and Lou met whilst participating in the Weston-Jerwood creative bursary award which helps those from lower socio-economic backgrounds gain a career within the arts. Since then they have been best friends and creative partners. Together we share a love for dancing, singing and laughing, using this to create spaces where people can take stock, and find moments of elation.
