SLAP says Farewell and a Huge Thank You to Sophie
This year SLAP says farewell to co-founder and co-director Sophie Unwin.
Sophie has been a part of SLAP from the very beginning, together we have worked on many projects from pop up events in pubs to festivals. Sophie’s passion and vision has been a big part of making SLAP the company that it is today. We want to take a moment to thank Sophie for all of the work that she has done.
“Sophie and I have been collaborators since 2011, we have worked together to make some pretty amazing things happen. Together we experienced many firsts - We created our first professional work together, had our first review in the guardian, produced events for the first time and went on our first tour of the UK. She is now embarking on her own series of firsts and I am excited for her, as she moves onto this next chapter of life.” - SLAP Director Lydia Cottrell
A few words from Sophie:
“Founding and Co-directing SLAP for the last 8 years has been a real honour and I'm really proud of all we have achieved. We started small- working in pubs, gallery spaces and unused office buildings, giving artists a supportive space to experiment and play. SLAP quickly built momentum and we were able to create major citywide projects and festivals, bringing exceptional performances to the city. Its been so important to support regional artists and their work, something Lydia and myself have always been passionate about. I have loved reaching audiences who have never been to the theatre before, and programming multidisciplinary performances, cabaret, live art and everything in between.
Its been a roller-coaster ride! SLAP is now moving into a new phase, focusing on artist development in the city which is really exciting. I am also moving on to new things and leave SLAP in the very capable hands of Lydia, who will take SLAP on a new journey. Thanks to all the artists, audiences and venues who have supported us over the years!”
